STORY'S must be in and APPROVED BY THURSDAY AT NOON


Image Specs (upload file as 'image' not media path):

Size (Field Name: Article Image): 450px (w) by 338px (h)  https://pixlr.com/ 
Size (Field Name: Homepage Feature Image): 900px (w) by 500px (h)

Filename Covention: "Friday-Issue-Date_image_description_initials" (ex: 9-18-15_image_lucas-event_AB)
Upload to: Content → Media Library → Main-Site → 2017-18 → Images → News → "Current Year" → "Current Month"

Note: images from past designs live under: Media Library -> News -> News@Images -> "the current year" -> "the current month"

Email

Prior to re-sizing, please save a hi-res version of your image.  If your story is the 'Featured Top Story' please send the original image to abarden@fairfield.edu 


Top 7 Stories - General Audience (DO NOT include personalized stories in this section):

  1. Upload image to the media library (see above instructions)... select 'image' not media path
  2. In T4 go to section: "News" → "Archive" → (select month matching publish date)
  3. Click "Add Content" and choose template: NewsAt-2017-Story
    1. Filename Convention: "Friday-Issue-Date_top-story_description_initials" (ex: 9-18-15_top-story_lucas-event_AB)
  4. Fill in all required fields (all field names have an "i" next to them - you can hover over this icon for more information)
    • Headline for URL (this will be the last part in the story URL - in most cases it will match the headline - it should be all lowercase, no punctuation, words separated by hyphen)
    • Homepage Feature (required if the story is the feature for that week - please send the image to the digital marketing contact listed in the current week's summary email from Jen S.)
    • Audience (creates a link at the bottom of the story next to 'tags' - links to the T4 section with other like stories)
    • Vimeo Embed - /wiki/spaces/DM/pages/31293851
    • Flickr Embed - Please send to the digital marketing contact listed in the current week's summary email from Jen S.
    • Additional Events (if you have a need for more than 2 events - please contact Digital Marketing with event information)
    • SEO title, description and keywords (these items will not be visible on the story page but are picked up by search engines)
    • Personalized Story Removal Date (this is the date you no longer want the story to appear under that audience tag)
  5. Update and Approve

News Articles

For news articles outside of the weekly top 7 (ie. social media link), please follow the above steps when entering a new article.  Do not save the article at the top of the list - please move it to the #8 position.  Contact Digital Marketing to publish the news archive.


Personalized Stories (DO NOT include stories from the top 7 - General Audience):
**personalization is updated using the 'audience' field - it is important this field is correctly filled out**

  1. In T4 go to section: "News" → "Tags" → (select audience section with the highest priority)
  2. Click "Add Content" and choose template: NewsAt-2017-Story
    1. Filename Convention: "Friday-Issue-Date_audience_description_initials" (ex: 9-18-15_alumni_lucas-event_AB)
  3. Fill in all required fields (all field names have an "i" next to them - you can hover over this icon for more information)

    • Audience (must be selected for all audiences you want it to appear for - it is pulled in under 'stories just for you' in the right column of the homepage)

STORY ORDER

Stories must be in the correct order; starting with the feature story in position 1.  If the order is not correct in T4, the stories will not publish out to the website in correct order.



Thinkspace:
T4 Location: "News" → "Thinkspace Blogs" → (use template and update with most recent blog posts from thinkspace.fairfield.edu)
Template Name: Thinkspace Template

Tags:
From previous redesigns there are 2 content types currently on the pages (alumni, parents, friend, student, fac/staff, university) - 'top story template' & 'feature story template'

Homepage:
Top Story Feature (1): updated through nav id 671 (NewsAt-2017-Feature) - the section field needs to pull from current publishing month (starts at first piece of content and pulls in 1)
Top Stories (2-7): updated through nav id 667 (NewsAt-2017-TopStories) - the section field needs to pull from current publishing month (starts at piece of second piece of content and pulls in 6)
Personalized Stories: updated through nav ids 707 (alumni), 708 (parent), 709 (friend), 710 (student), 711 (facstaff) - start at first piece of content and pulls in 3; content no longer appears based on removed date "Personalized Story Removal Date"
Code Only Content: comments for force publishing the homepage
Archive: updated through two nav ids to pull in the most recent two months under the "Archive"

  • NewsAt 2017 - Older Stories - 1st Month (701): starts at piece of content 8 and pulls in remaining pieces.  Section field needs to pull from current publishing month & Number of pieces of content to display needs to be updated to pull in remaining content.
  • NewsAt 2017 - Older Stories - 2nd Month (706): starts at piece of content 8 and pulls in remaining pieces.  Section field needs to pull from most recent past publishing month & Number of pieces of content to display needs to be updated to pull in remaining content.


Archive (future months - add new sections here):

When adding a new section (month) - mirror the "H1 tag" piece of content into the new section.


RSS Feeds (located under assets):
At the beginning of every month the below navigation objects need to have the section updated to the current month.

  • 'NewsAt-2017-RSS Feed out' (navID 730)  **this is pulled into the digital boards**
  • 'NewsAt-2017-RSS Feed out - Facebook' (navID 690)  **this is pulled into instant articles**

Publish Settings:
The News section is ignored on all auto publishes.  Those settings need to be removed prior to publishing the branch on Friday morning.

  1. Go to tools → configuration
  2. Click on the Environment tab
  3. Add variable "ignore-name-on-publish-36"
  4. enter the name of the section "news" into the field
