Counseling Groups

Counseling groups meet one time per week for 60 minutes unless otherwise specified.  Meeting days and times are generally established based on student interest and availability.

If you are interested in meeting with a group leader to see if it's a good fit to join a group, please contact us and indicate you are interested in scheduling a brief, 15-minute group screening appointment. Students who have previously participated in groups and are interested in returning should also schedule a group screening appointment.

If a group is marked 'TBD' it means the date and time of the group are still being determined.  If you are interested, reach out to us so we can consider your availability when determining a day and time.

Name

Group/Workshop Description

Addiction Recovery Group

This group is for all students who are interested in being sober or who have achieved abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

Connections

Relationships can be the source of both positive and negative feelings for all of us.  Join peers who are interested in actively working towards achieving growth by enhancing their capacity to create, sustain and deepen connections with others.

Feel Better Fast for First Years

Feeling stressed? Welcome to the first semester of college when 70% of students report feeling homesick and stressed out. While it takes time to fully adjust, this three (3) session group will teach strategies to help you manage through the transition period and meet other students on the same path.

Grief Group

This group is for anyone looking for support in dealing with loss.  Grief and its accompanying emotions can be complicated.  When we have lost a person who has had meaning in our lives, being with a supportive community of people who actually understand can be just the thing to help us heal.

Living Your Best Queer Life at Fairfield U

This group provides a confidential, and affirming environment for the LGBTQIA+ community to discuss identity, intimate relationships, family and friendships, mental health, intersectionality and other issues of relevance. The group is focused on the needs of the members and is highly flexible and inclusive.

Melanin Matters

This is a co-ed inclusive and affirming group for students of color at Fairfield University.  The group is focused on the needs of its members, discussing overall issues that pertain to them on campus. Ultimately we aim to provide a relaxed, safe, empowering space for students of color to engage in community, solidarity, supportive healing, and joy.

Nursing Wellness Group

A weekly drop-in support group for student nurses focused on managing stress, reducing academic overwhelm, developing resiliency, and creating supportive connections with other student nurses on campus.

Self-Care for Survivors

This group is for students who want to build self-care skills and share a sense of safety with fellow survivors of sexual trauma.  If you have been sexually assaulted since attending college or as a child, talking about it can be the first step in the healing process.

Spoonies: Chronic Illness Support

This group is for students who are managing chronic medical illness at college.  Students often feel alone with issues related to medical illness and this group is designed to bring students into community with others who are faced with similar challenges and successes.

Understanding Self and Others

A group for students who want to give and receive support to each other in a nurturing and safe environment. The group is appropriate for students working through a wide range of topics including but not limited to personal growth, relationships, depression, anxiety, stress management, establishing healthy boundaries, and improving self-care.

Wellness Wednesday Workshops (FYE)

Learn skills, meet people gain insight, and earn FYE credits at these weekly Wednesday workshops.  Topics include homesickness, tips on transitioning to college, time management, self-care, and more.

Yoga Workshops

Drop in for therapeutic yoga sessions which will be offered throughout the academic year.  These workshops are designed to help you experience relaxation in the moment and learn new skills for managing stress and anxiety.
