Drawio.com
Drawio, a Flowchart Maker & Online Diagram Software, is a technology stack for building diagramming applications, and the world’s most widely used browser-based end-user diagramming software.
No login or registration required as this is not a licensed tool. Use whichever cloud platform you prefer to store your diagram files: Google Drive, One Drive, Drop Box, in your browser or on your device. External collaborators do not need to join your instance, they can view and edit diagram files that are shared using the online editor. Embed diagrams with draw.io add ons.
Draw.io can struggle with performance and responsiveness when students or faculty build large, complex diagrams, which may slow down collaborative work. It offers fewer advanced collaboration, version-control, and integration features compared with premium tools, making it less ideal for fully integrated classroom.

Microsoft Visio
Microsoft Visio is a diagramming and vector graphics application used to create professional diagrams, flowcharts, organizational charts, network maps, floor plans, and other visual representations of data and processes. It provides a wide range of templates, shapes, and tools that help users design clear and accurate diagrams quickly. Visio integrates with other Microsoft 365 applications, allowing for easy collaboration, data linking, and sharing. Limitations include its steep learning curve and limited accessibility for collaborative, real-time group work compared to cloud-based tools. It can be less intuitive for creative or conceptual tasks compared to visual whiteboard tools
Visio in Microsoft 365 includes:
Limited templates for general diagrams and basic flowcharts
Real-time collaboration, commenting, and sharing with the Visio web app or the Visio app in Microsoft Teams1
Security, compliance, data privacy, accessibility, and Microsoft 365 customer support

Miro
Miro is a cloud-based collaborative whiteboard platform designed to help teams brainstorm, plan, and work together visually in real time. It provides an infinite canvas where users can create mind maps, flowcharts, wireframes, and project boards using a variety of templates and tools. Miro supports teamwork across different locations by allowing multiple users to edit and comment simultaneously, making it ideal for remote and hybrid work environments. It integrates with popular productivity apps like Microsoft Teams, enabling seamless collaboration and efficient project management throughout the creative and planning process.
Miro’s limitations include accessibility challenges for users with disabilities, performance issues on large or heavily used boards, and limited offline functionality. Additionally, its feature complexity can pose a learning curve for new users, and some advanced features are restricted under the free Education plan.
