Borrowing Laptops and iPads from ITS
ITS maintains a stock of iPads, Windows laptops, and Mac laptops available for use by faculty, staff, and students. These devices support teaching, learning, and short-term academic needs. Read further on this page to learn more about the device loaner programs.
Loaners are subject to availability. During high-demand periods, a device may not always be available.
Borrowers must return the device and all provided accessories by the agreed-upon date and in the same condition they were issued.
If the device is lost, stolen, or damaged, please notify ITS as soon as possible.
Failure to return the device and accessories, or returning them damaged, may result in a repair or replacement charge based on fair market value.
Students
Students can borrow a laptop or an iPad from ITS for one week if their personal technology is being repaired or they have another short-term academic need (depending on availability).
Available Devices:
Macbook Air
HP Elitebook
iPad Air with Logitech Keyboard
Acceptable Use Agreements:
Adjunct and Staff
Laptops
Adjuncts and staff can request a laptop for a loan period of 7 days while their primary device is being repaired. Laptop availability may vary. All loan requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
iPads
Adjuncts and staff can check out an iPad (8th Generation) or iPad (9th Generation) with a Logitech Crayon for the semester. These devices need to be returned or renewed at the end of each term.
Departments interested in purchasing an iPad can request a quote for any model.
Full-Time Faculty
Laptops
Full-time can request a laptop loaner for a loan period of 7 days while their primary device is being repaired.
iPads
Academic Computing leases iPads for use by full-time faculty for the duration of the lease. These iPads do not need to be returned until the end of the lease or the last date the faculty member is employed by Fairfield University.
We are currently leasing the 11-inch iPad (11th Gen, A16) with USB-C Logitech Crayons.
Key benefits of the new model:
Sidecar wireless second display: great for annotating slides or using the iPad as a dedicated whiteboard while your Mac runs the presentation.
Smoother stylus performance: lower latency makes handwriting and live annotation feel natural for grading and in-class work.
Stronger overall performance: faster multitasking, smoother Zoom/Teams, higher-quality lecture capture, and reliable streaming even under heavy loads.
Enhanced video, audio, and future-proofing: better cameras and mics improve remote teaching, and the newer chip ensures compatibility with emerging classroom apps.
All leased iPads are due back by September 30, 2028.
