9/4/2024: IT Security Update - Phishing Alert, Stay Safe This Fall Semester
As we start the Fall semester, it’s vital for everyone to be aware of phishing attempts. Phishing is when malicious individuals try to steal your sensitive information by pretending to be trustworthy sources.
Fake Emails: Watch for emails that look like they come from banks or University departments.
Urgent Language: Be cautious of messages that create a false sense of urgency.
Requests for Personal Info: Legitimate organizations won’t ask for sensitive information via email.
Suspicious Links/Attachments: Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.
How to Protect Yourself
Verify Sender Addresses: Always double-check email addresses from senders to verify they are legitimate.
Report Suspicious Emails: Forward them to phishing@fairfield.edu or call the IT Help Desk at (203) 254-4069.
If You Suspect Phishing: Don’t respond—report and delete the email.
Stay Vigilant
Phishing attempts often increase at the start of the academic year. Your awareness is key to keeping our community safe. For questions, contact the IT Help Desk.
