  1. Open your Blackboard course

  2. Select the plus sign where you want to add an assignment. You can also expand or create a folder or learning module and add an assignment within that element.

  4. Under Assessment, select Test

  5. Enter the Name of the Test

    3. Auto-Generate Questions to use Blackboard’s AI Design Assistant to generate assessment questions.

      1. Adjust the parameters and select the questions you want to add to your assignment and discard those that don't fit your needs. Edit the questions as needed to refine their clarity, accuracy, and relevance to your specific course context.

    4. Add a local file or Add File from Cloud Storage to upload any attachments related to the test.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. When students take an online assessment that uses LockDown Browser they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit for grading. It is available across Windows, Mac and iOS platform.
Instructor Resources

Tip

To ensure students are successful the first time they take a test using Respondus LockDown Browser, we encourage you to provide a practice test with unlimited attempts. You can create your own, or use the practice test on Study Skills and Ultra Navigation that we have created to sample each question type. To use our file:

  1. Download the file

  2. In your course, option the More Options (...) menu in the top right of the the Course Content Page and select Import Content

  3. Select Import Test and select the .zip file

  4. The test will be added to an Underplayed Tests folder at the bottom of your course. You can move it out of the folder and make it available to students.

Getting Students Started

Enable Respondus LockDown Browser

  1. Open the test

  2. Open the Settings Panel for the test

  3. Under Assessment Security, select Lockdown Browser Dashboard

    Note

    The first time you launch Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard from a Blackboard Ultra Course, you will need to allow the Learn Authorization.


  4. Next click the dropdown menu next to the test and select Settings.

  5. Select the radio button next to Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam.

  6. Setting a password is optional and not recommended.

  7. Select Advanced Settings to review the following optional settings:

    1. Require LockDown Browser to view post-exam feedback and results

    2. Lock students into the browser until exam is completed

    3. (Recommended) Allow students to take this exam with an iPad (using the "LockDown Browser" app from the Apple App Store)Allow access to specific external web domains

    4. Enable Calculator on the toolbar

    5. Enable Printing from the toolbar

  8. Then click Save and Close. It is now necessary for students to access the test through LockDown Browser, which should already be installed on their computer.
