Creating an Outlook 2010/2013 Profile

This article will walk you through setting up an Outlook Profile for an @fairfield.edu Exchange email account, whether it is your Personal or a Resource account on Outlook 2010/2013. 

Click on the Stat Menu, then click on Control Panel

Depending on the view setting of your Control Panel, please do the following:

If in Icon view, then click on Mail (32-Bit)

If in Category view, click on User Accounts, then click Mail (32-Bit)

Click on Show Profiles, if necessary, until you see this box.

Select Prompt for a profile to be used if it is not already selected and then click Add.


Enter a name for this profile. You can use your NetID or your name if you are setting up your own mailbox or a resource account name if this is a shared (resource) mailbox. (example: jdoe or accounting). Click OK.


If your email address is not already showing in the E-mail Address box, enter it (example: yourNetID@fairfield.edu. It is not necessary to enter your password at this point.
NOTE: If you are setting up a resource account mailbox, remove your email address and replace it with the e-mail address of the resource account (example: accounting@fairfield.edu).
Click on the box next to Manually configure server settings (Outlook 2010) or Change Account Settings (Outlook 2013), then Click Next.

If prompted, select Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service, then Click Next.


7. Remove the check mark next to Use Cached Exchange Mode if it is selected.


Click More Settings.

8. Click on the Security tab.
Click the box next to Always prompt for logon credentials.
Click OK, then Finish.


Close out of the Mail General box if necessary to get back to your desktop.
9. There are just a few more steps to go to set up your mailbox in Outlook. You should now open Outlook by double-clicking on the
Outlook icon.

10. You will now see your profile name in the Choose Profile box. If you have multiple mailboxes, you can click the down arrow to choose the one you wish to log in to at that time. Press OK.


11. You will always use your own username (NetId) and password when you log in to Outlook, even if you have multiple mailboxes.
When you log in to your account for the first time on a particular computer, make sure that FFLDU\ is listed before your username. If there is something else before your username, replace it with FFLDU\. (See example at right.)
Enter your password and click OK.


12. If you have multiple mailboxes, always go to the File menu and choose Exit instead of clicking on the X in the right hand corner of the screen when you exit out of Outlook.
13. Note: If you wish to get to your mailbox over the internet using the web version of Outlook (Outlook Web App or OWA), go to www.fairfield.edu/mail
If you wish to connect to a resource account using OWA, enter the link above followed by the email address of the resource account. Example: www.fairfield.edu/mail/resource@fairfield.edu
You would then log in with your own NetID and password.
