Counseling & Psychological Services (C&PS)

Individual Counseling

Counseling & Psychological Services (C&PS) offers individual counseling to full-time undergraduate students. Individual counseling is from a multifaced orientation drawing on Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, ACT, and empowerment approaches.

Sessions are offered both in-person and by telehealth videocall (over Zoom).

Short-Term Counseling

Short-term, goal-focused counseling is available for full-time undergraduate students in order to help address a range of issues that may affect academic performance and/or emotional health, including anxiety, sadness, grief, adjustment to college, and relationship difficulties.

Although the length of the counseling process varies, students can be seen for up to 6-8 sessions in an academic year. Meetings typically occur every 2-3 weeks. Counseling takes place after an initial appointment where you and your counselor both agree that meeting again for a brief series of appointments would be helpful.

Our goal is to provide an open, supportive, and confidential environment for you to address the issues that are most important to you.

Long-Term Psychotherapy

C&PS does not have the capacity to manage chronic conditions requiring intensive, frequent contacts.  After an initial consultation, we may refer a student to more appropriate services in the community if the consultation reveals that the student's needs exceed what our goal-focused model and staff expertise can accommodate.

Other Services

Although C&PS strives to provide as many clinical services to our students as possible, some services are beyond the scope of our practice and specialization. However we work with students to provide them with referrals to access needed resources elsewhere.
