Subject: Email Limits: Resource Accounts Available

Good morning Deans,

Since we recently implemented the email recipient limits, we have successfully avoided thousands of unauthorized messages exiting fairfield.edu. While we regret the inconvenience this has caused, it is indeed the world we currently live in.

As you all know, these email limits have restricted student-facing communications from within our schools and colleges. After phone conversations across ITS and Marketing we believe we have come to a solid solution. ITS would be happy to create an EMAIL RESOURCE ACCOUNT for each school interested in communicating via email with more than 100 students per hour. Example, Engineering Communication engineeringcomm@fairfield.edu (similar to the University Announcements announce@fairfield.edu account).

These resource accounts will require approval from the Dean with a quick review by Jenn Anderson and myself. [added on 3/15/2016:  Schools or colleges or departments that need a resource account for student communication purposes need to send their request in to let’s make it ME. I’ll then handle getting Dean approval if necessary.]  We need a formal request (reply back to this email is fine) and a specific individual within your school to act as the resource account administrator. Example, DBS might be Mark Ligas, Engineering might be Ryan Munden. Email recipient limits will be lifted for this small number of resource accounts. Our Network Team says that historically these accounts are not compromised as odd incoming emails stand-out more so than in personal email accounts.

Please let me know if your school would like a RESOURCE ACCOUNT for sending mass communications to your students. Also Jenn, help with possibly better account emails that engineeringcomm@fairfield.edu.

Full instructions on how to use/manage a resource account will be delivered with the account. Future requests for resource accounts can be made via Help Desk ticket but please understand we are trying to limit the number of resource accounts for security and management purposes.

A special thanks goes to Ryan and Mark for helping define the problem and conceptualize a workable solution. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Thank you,

Paige and Jenn
