Faculty and Staff Network Registration

 

Note

Computers running distributions of the Linux operating system cannot be registered to the network with this process. Please contact the ITS Help Desk for assistance registering your Linux computer.


Network Registration on Windows

Windows Requirements

  1. The computer must be running Windows 10 and have all Windows updates installed.

  2. Antivirus software must be installed and virus definitions up-to-date.

All university owned computers should have CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor installed as their antivirus.

Non-university owned computers running Windows 10 or newer will have Windows Defender already installed.

Step 1: Connecting to the Network on Windows

  1. Open Connect to a Network by clicking the network icon in the notification area.

  1. in the list of networks, select the network and choose Connect.

    1. FacStaff: Choose FacStaff

  2. When prompted for Account Name and Password, enter NetID and Password.

  3. You will be prompted to Continue connecting?  Choose Connect.

Step 2: Registering to the Network on Windows

  1. Open a web browser on your Windows computer and visit the https://neverssl.com website.  You will be redirected to the Device Registration page.  Choose Start.

  1. On the following Device Registration page please click

Click to Download Agent.

  1. Select Click Here to download Cisco Temporal Agent

  1. Select

Save.

  1. Click on filename on the lower left-hand corner or downloaded files list.  For example, below the filename is

anyconnect-ise-nsa-win-5.0…exe.   Please note this filename will change as new versions become available

  1. The Cisco Client will then download and install as follows:

  1. When the agent has completed downloading click 

Connect.

  1. The Cisco Secure Client will initialize

.

  1. Registration is complete.

10. You should be redirected to https://fairfield.edu .

 

11. Test your Successful Registration by going to fairfield.edu. If the page does not load or nothing occurs, please try restarting your computer

Failed Registration

Failing to meet the Network Requirements can be one or more of the following reasons:

  1. Windows System Software is out-of-date.

    1. See instructions on how to search for and install all available Windows Updates. 

  2. Antivirus is not installed.

    1. All University computers should CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor installed. If not, contact the ITS Help Desk.

    2. Personal Machines

      1. Windows 10 come with Windows Defender, so no installation is necessary.

  3. Antivirus is installed, but virus definitions are out-of-date. 

    1. Open your antivirus application and click "Update"

Once you have resolved your network registration failure, you will need to run through the ISE agent process again to verify that you meet the network requirements.

Any University computer with Windows 8.1 or earlier must be brought to the ITS Help Desk to be updated or removed from circulation as those operating systems are no longer supported by Microsoft.

 

Network Registration on macOS

mac OS Requirements

  1. The computer must be running macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or newer and have security updates installed.

  2. Antivirus software must be installed and virus definitions up-to-date.

All university owned computers should have CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor installed as their antivirus.

Non-university owned computers can install Avast Antivirus

Step 1: Connecting to the Network on macOS

  1. Select the Wi-Fi menu icon .

  2. In the list of networks, select the network.

    1. Faculty and Staff: Choose FACSTAFF-S

  3. When prompted for Account Name and Password, enter NetID and Password..

  4. For the Verify Certificate screen select Continue

  1. If you are see the following screen, please enter your Mac username and password and select

Update Settings

Step 2: Registering to the Network on macOS

  1. Open a web browser on your Windows computer and visit the website http://neverssl.com  to register your device.

  2. Once you are directed to the Device Registration page, please click Start.

  3. On the following Device Registration page please click This is what to do next.

  4. Select Click Here to download Cisco Temporal Agent

  1. Click on the filename in the lower left hand corner. For example

cisco-macros-5….dmg.  Please note that this filename will change as new versions of the program are available.

  1. Double-click on the Cisco Temporal Agent icon.

  1. When the Cisco Temporal Agent finishes click

Quit.

  1. On the Device Registration screen click

Register Now.

  1. On the Registration Portal select

MAC OS and Start.

10. On the Device Registration page enter a Device name and an optional Description and then click Continue.

11.  Test your Successful Registration by going to fairfield.edu. If the page does not load or nothing occurs, please try restarting your computer.

Failed Registration

Failing to meet the Network Requirements can be one or more of the following reasons:

  1. Mac OS System Software is out-of-date

    1. See instructions on how to update Mac OS .

  2. Antivirus is not installed

    1. All University Mac machines should have CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor installed. If not, contact the ITS Help Desk.

    2. Personal Computers

      1. All non-university Macs can install any Antivirus software they like. We recommend Avast as a free supported solution. Once installed, update the virus definitions. See Avast install instructions.

  3. Antivirus is installed, but virus definitions are out-of-date

    1. Open your antivirus application and click "Update" (See instructions for updating Avast for Personal Machines.)

Once you have resolved your network registration failure, you will need to run through the ISE agent process again to verify that you meet the network requirements.

Any University machines with Mac OS X 10.xx or earlier must be brought to the ITS Help Desk to update or be removed from circulation as those operating systems are no longer supported by Apple.
