Below are some of the categories of mental health apps that Counseling & Psychological Services is familiar with. Because mental health apps are an ever-expanding industry, we recommend that students review apps carefully and keep their data privacy in mind before using any app. Listed apps are provided to convey a sampling of available apps, and C&PS is not affiliated with any of these products.

Habit Tracking Apps

A habit tracking app is a fun and easy way to remind and track your progress towards your wellness goals. By customizing your entries, you can use this to increase or decrease a habit, depending on your goals.

Done: A Simple Habit Tracker (Apple): Done helps you create healthy routines by helping you set goals, tracking your progress, and then motivating you with streaks/chains.

EZ Habit - Simple Habit Tracker (Android): Habit tracker with a calendar and simple note for journal.

Forest - Focus for Productivity (Apple) (Android): Have trouble focusing? Use Forest, a must-have gamified timer which helps you beat procrastination and boost productivity!

Mental Health Tools

Some apps provide a variety of mental health tools such as instructions for breathing exercises, activities to ground you in the here and now, affirmations to help you not get down on yourself, journaling tools, and other coping resources. 

What’s Up? – Mental Health App: (Apple) (Android): Utilizes CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy) methods to help you cope with Depression, Anxiety, Anger, Stress and more.

 Sanvello: Anxiety & Depression (Apple) (Android):  A feel-better toolkit, including therapy, coaching, coping techniques, meditations, and goal and mood tracking, designed by experts to help you feel better.

Shine: Calm Anxiety & Stress (Apple) (Android): Founded by two women of color on a mission to make taking care of your mental health easier, more representative, and more accessible.

Guided Meditation Apps

Guided meditation apps may be useful to learn techniques such as mindfulness meditation, connecting to your body with a body scan, or to help calm your mind before sleep.

Headspace: Mindful Meditation (Apple) (Android): Offers guided meditation, sleep meditation, and breathing exercises. 

Calm: Sleep & Meditation (Apple) (Android): Discover a happier, healthier you through our meditations, Sleep Stories, music, and more.

Insight Timer - Meditation App (Apple) (Android): Learn to meditate to help calm the mind, reduce anxiety, manage stress, sleep deeply and improve happiness.

Mood Tracking Apps

Mood tracking apps are useful both as a way to remember to check in with yourself each day and also to allow you to notice patterns across time. It can be especially helpful to journal moods day-to-day because recall for longer periods of time is often colored by what we feel right now.

 Daylio Journal (Apple) (Android): Bullet Journal with Goals, Mood Diary, and Happiness Tracker.

DailyBean - simplest journal (Apple) (Android):  A simple diary app for those who want to record their daily lives easily.

Augmented Reality / Fitness Tracking Apps

Augmented reality (AR) and fitness tracking apps may give you a good reason to get some light exercise in and have fun during your day. Walking is great both for physical health and can often lift mood.

Pikmin Bloom (Apple) (Android): Grow your Pikmin, make flowers bloom, and keep track of your precious memories, all through the simple act of walking.

Google Fit: Activity Tracker (Apple) (Android): Get to a healthier and more active life with a journal of your activity.
