Purchasing Textbooks and Other Course Materials
Red Stack Direct Rental Program
Red Stack Direct is an affordable textbook rental program providing students with course materials at a fixed rate of $24 per credit and by the first day of class. Students are automatically enrolled each term they are registered for classes. Learn more about Red Stack Direct.
Opting Out and Purchasing Textbooks and Other Course Materials
Students are automatically enrolled in the Red Stack Direct Rental Program and must opt-out each term that they do not wish to participate by the opt-out deadline.
Instructions and deadlines for opting out are posted on the Red Stack Direct FAQs.
When opting out, confirm that you are opting out of the correct term.
After opting out, follow these steps to find your course materials:
Go to the Fairfield University Bookstore
Hover over the Course Materials and Textbooks tab and select Find Course Materials
Select the option for Term OPT OUT (ex Fall 24 OPT OUT)
Enter your course information
Select Retrieve Materials
If you choose to purchase materials from another seller, including the publisher directly, verify that you are purchasing the correct version(s) required by your instructor.
Accessing Digital Textbooks and Other Course Materials
Red Stack Direct Participants
You will receive a welcome email on the first day of class regarding your Red Stack Direct materials. The email will list their courses, the digital items that are in them, and any specific instructions related to them.
For all course materials rented through Red Stack Direct:
Open your course in Blackboard
Click the BNC Course Materials link
Click Activate or Reveal Access Code below the course material. If the material is not digital, you will not see these buttons.
After Activating, you will be able to access the text from your Yuzu library.
Reveal Access Code allows you to copy the access code and redeem it through the publisher LTI link in your Blackboard course.
You can then access your digital course materials through the Yuzu app, the BNC Course Materials link in your Blackboard course(s), or by using the physical materials you selected at check out (if applicable).

Students Who Opt-Out of Red Stack Direct
You will receive an email from the publisher with your access code and instructions on how to redeem it for your specific course materials.
Pearson, Cengage, and other Publisher Courseware
Whether you rented the materials through Red Stack Direct or purchased through another avenue, you must redeem your access code on the Publisher’s platform. In most cases, your instructor will provide a link in your Blackboard course to the publisher site.
Copy the access code.
Red Stack Direct Participants: The access code may be found in your email or through the BNC Course Materials link your Blackboard Course. Click Reveal Access code.
All others: The access code may be found in your email.

Yuzu for Red Stack Direct Participants
Students may search for their course materials through the Fairfield University Bookstore or using the new Barnes and Noble Yuzu app via Blackboard, web, or any mobile device. From the mobile app, you can access your content offline after it has been downloaded to the device.
Yuzu is a learning platform that delivers an enhanced digital reading experience with access to a broad digital catalog. Yuzu has advanced features, compatibility and accessibility to help enhance your students learning experience.

Look up in Wikipedia | Select a term in the book, then choose “Look up Wikipedia” from the context menu. |
Define | Select a term in the book, then choose “Define” from the context menu. |
Fast Highlights | Turn Fast Highlights on and drag to select text to highlight. |
Display Options | Make reading easier in low light settings by adjusting font, font size, margins, line spacing and background color. |
Create Flashcards from the Context Menu | Highlight a word, sentence, or image to add it to the flashcard. Select a deck or create a new one. |
Students can Complete their Cards in the Panel | Highlighted text will be added to the front of the card. Add text to the back to complete it. |
Add More Cards | Add more flashcards and decks right from inside the panel by using the plus button. |
Students can Study their Cards: | Select the play button to launch the flashcard review. Mark the confidence level on each card to make it easier to study later. |
Accessibility
Barnes & Noble College is committed to accessibility to create solutions that enable people with disabilities to more easily find, see, hear, and learn from digital content. With Yuzu powered by VitalSource, students have access to Text to Speech to assist them in their studies.
iOS App: Using built-in operating system functionality (VoiceOver or Speech), most functions are accessible by using a Bluetooth keyboard. Examples of exceptions include selecting text for highlighting or copying.
Android App: TalkBack is a screen reader and can be used to navigate the app. With TalkBack turned on, Bluetooth keyboard can be used to navigate the application. Without TalkBack, UI elements do not receive Bluetooth keyboard focus.
Web App: Text to Speech functionality is available using third party screen readers. Users with a Mac computer can use VoiceOver. Users with Windows can utilize narrator or a supported third- party application such as Jaws, NVDA or SuperNova to enable text to speech.
New Yuzu Users: Creating an Account
After your first textbooks have been purchased, you will receive an email confirmation from Barnes and Noble with instructions to sign in to your account. The email will look similar to the text below:

Existing Yuzu Users: Purchasing and Access New Content
How to Purchase and Access Your Publisher eBooks and Courseware
Purchase your publisher courseware from your bookstore's website.
Go to yuzu.com and choose sign in then choose "Yuzu Barnes & Noble".
Sign in with the email you used to order the digital content. This should be the same as what you use to sign onto the bookstore website.
Select "Forgot Password" if you signed in as a guest, have never ordered from the website, or have forgotten your password and you will receive an email to reset your password. Once you have reset your password, log in to your Yuzu account.Open your Library to access your eBooks.
To access your courseware:
Click Reveal Access Code.
Follow the on-screen instructions and review the Return Policy before revealing your code. Please confirm that you have purchased the correct title before clicking Reveal Access Code.
Copy the code, then visit the publisher's courseware website to redeem your code and access your content.
Redeem on mobile
Download and login to the Yuzu app.
Click the menu icon, then My Account.
Click the menu icon again, then click on Resources.
Click Access Codes, and copy the code.
Navigate to the courseware provider's website, and paste the code to redeem.
