Mac OS Update -Monterey

Apple released its operating system (macOS Monterey) for Apple computers last fall.  ITS has reviewed this operating system and is recommending that users upgrade.  As always, please back-up all important data prior to upgrading and check for specific application compatibility.

Monterey Note for users:

For some apps you may see a Notifications popup with a crosshatch (prohibitory symbol)  through the icon. This is a known issue and is generally cosmetic. Notifications for the app should still work as expected (they do for all the default apps we install).

Big Sur Update

Apple released its operating system (macOS Big Sur) for Apple computers last fall.  ITS has reviewed this operating system and is recommending that users check for application compatibility and do the upgrade if their applications are compatible.

It is STRONGLY recommended to back-up all important data prior to upgrading.

Zoom Mac Outlook Plugin

Microsoft is going to disable the Zoom Mac Outlook Plugin. As of January 11, 2021, Microsoft confirmed that the plugin will be retired in May of 2021

Actions to Take Before May 2021

In order to continue scheduling Zoom meetings directly from Outlook, you will need to uninstall the plugin and download and install the Zoom for Outlook Add-In. Depending on how you’ve configured the plugin, uninstalling may be required at both the account and user level, or just the account level. Similarly, add-in installation may be required at both the account and user-level or just the account level (depending on configuration). Deployment recommendations for the add-in can be found here. Note: the Outlook plugin for Windows is not being retired and will continue to function as usual.

Catalina Upgrade

Apple released its operating system (macOS 10.15 - Catalina) for Apple computers last fall.  ITS has reviewed this operating system per our policy and is providing the following information to help you decide if you should upgrade.

ITS has determined that this is not a critical update and upgrading is not necessary, if you are currently on Mojave (macOS 10.14). Some applications and personal printers will no longer work after the upgrade.
