macOS upgrade – Sequoia (macOS 15)

Apple released its operating system (macOS Sequoia) for Apple computers this fall.  ITS has reviewed this operating system and is recommending that users upgrade. After upgrading to macOS Sequoia you may see an Apple Intelligence message and a Welcome to Mac screen  (click "Continue" for both messages).

Zoom AI Companion Features & Settings

On Wednesday, October 15th, ITS identified a change in Zoom's global settings that unintentionally turned on the Zoom AI Companion feature for all meetings by default. This change was traced back to October 9th and was reverted to off by default on October 15th

As a result, all meetings hosted by Fairfield University staff, faculty, and students with licensed Zoom accounts had the Zoom AI Companion turned on at the start of their meetings between October 9th and October 15th. While a pop-up notification appeared informing participants of its activation, we understand it might have been easy to miss. We recognize concerns surrounding user data and privacy, and we want to address them directly.

Blackboard Event - Anthology's Fix Your Content Day 2024

On October 3, 2024, Anthology will host its annual Fix Your Content Day contest. This is Fairfield University’s first year participating! This event is proudly sponsored by the Office of Accessibility, The Center for Academic Excellence, and Academic Computing. As part of our campus-wide commitment to inclusive education, we will be participating using Anthology® Ally capabilities. For 24 hours, we’ll be on a mission to fix as many accessibility issues in course files as we can. At the end of the day, the campus with the most files improved will be recognized and awarded a prize.

Blackboard Ultra Course View - May, 2024

As of Summer 2024, all courses at Fairfield University will be using the Blackboard Ultra Course View. This may be a new interface for you, or you may have used it previously if you took a course or taught as an “Early Adopter.”

What to Expect

Both instructors and students will experience a smoother learning experience with Blackboard Ultra. While instructors may need some initial time to adjust to organizing content in the new interface, the login process remains the same. Inside your courses, you'll find simpler navigation, fewer clicks to access materials, and a mobile app that offers a seamless learning experience on the go.
