Certificate Error on Apple computers.

Certificate Error on Apple computers.

Issue:

When accessing some 3rd party apps or websites from an Apple computer, you encounter a Certificate Error.

This can happen for any website or server whose certificate is expired or has issues in the certificate. For security reasons, Apple won’t automatically trust them. In some situations, you can "trust" the certificate and won't be prompted again. For non-University websites, be sure it is a site you are certain about before trusting.

Solution:

  1. When prompted with a Certificate error. Click Show Certificate.

  2. Highlight the lowest line item with a red "X" and click the check box. Then click Continue. Please note, if you aren’t shown this check box, the cert can’t be permanently trusted.

  3. You will then be prompted for your computer password. Enter it, then click Update Settings.

  4. You will no longer receive the Certificate Error for that app or site (unless there is a revision to the certificate)
