M365 Application Upgrade - What you will see Windows and Mac
ITS has deployed an important update for Microsoft Office apps to your computer. Please note that Microsoft has changed the name of “Office 365 Apps” to “Microsoft 365 Apps”.
For Windows users:
Close all Microsoft applications, including Microsoft Outlook.
Open Software Center, available on your desktop or the Start Menu.
Under Applications, click on Microsoft365Applications.
If the installation has not started automatically, you may start it by clicking “Install”
If you have any Microsoft Office apps open, a message will be displayed telling you to save your work and close all Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Once you close all Microsoft Office apps, the installation should begin within 5 minutes.
Once the installation is complete, open Outlook.
You may be prompted to sign into your Microsoft applications before use. Please enter your full Fairfield email address. (REMOVE FFLDU\NetId and put in your email address)
You will then be redirected to Fairfield University SSO where you will login with your NetID and password.
Your M365 license is now activated. If you activated M365 in any Office Application other than Outlook, you may need to repeat the process for Outlook.
For Mac users:
Restart your computer to allow Microsoft License Removal Tool to run.
Wait approximately 5 minutes after restarting to open any Microsoft applications. You should see a pop-up indicated the process has been completed. Dismiss the pop-up.
Open your Outlook application and click Outlook on the menu bar. Then select Purchase Microsoft 365 or Activate Microsoft 365 from the drop down menu. The continue on Step 4.
If nothing happens when you click Purchase Microsoft 365 or Activate Microsoft 365, the prior license may not have been fully cleared. To complete this process:
Make sure all Microsoft applications, except Outlook, are closed fully.
In Outlook, go to the Help menu and select Clear Application Data.
Check the box next to License, and select “Clear
Select “Clear and Restart” (this restarts the Outlook application, not the computer).
You should now be able to click on “Purchase Microsoft 365” or ‘Activate Microsoft 365” and activate your Office applications.
If you see the option to Buy Microsoft 365, select ‘Already bought…”
On the next window, sign in with your Fairfield University email and click “Next”
If prompted, select “Work or school account.” This will redirect you to the Fairfield University Single Sign On page.
Sign in with your NetID and password.
Your M365 license is now activated. If you activated M365 in any Office Application other than Outlook, you may need to repeat the process for Outlook.
Please remember to update your applications as soon as possible. (*Please note-this initial update may take 15-45 minutes to complete)
